How we verify our guides

People act on these pages in hard moments. So every fact has to be right, dated, and traceable — and where we can’t confirm something, we say so.

Where facts come from

Each state guide is built from the state regulator’s own pages, forms, statutes and rules. Each app guide is built from the operator’s own help center and terms. News coverage is used only to flag recent changes, and is labeled as secondary.

What “unconfirmed” means

If we couldn’t confirm a fact on an official page — because the page wouldn’t load, didn’t address it, or contradicted another official source — the guide marks it as not yet confirmed and tells you to check the official page. We never fill a gap with a guess.

Dates and re-checks

Every guide shows the date it was last checked and lists its sources. We re-check a portion of the guides every month so that no fact goes more than about 90 days without review, and we update a guide within two weeks when a state or operator changes its program.

Independence

We take no money from sportsbooks, casinos, fantasy apps, prediction markets, or affiliates of any of them, and we never link to an operator in a way that earns us anything. We don’t run remarketing or tracking pixels.

Corrections

Found something wrong or out of date? Email hello@howtostopbetting.com with the page and what changed. If it checks out against the official source, we fix it and update the date.

What this site is — and isn’t

How To Stop Betting is educational self-help. It is not therapy, diagnosis, or medical, legal or financial advice, and it doesn’t create a professional relationship. The ideas behind it are built around principles used in evidence-based treatment for gambling problems — practical barriers first — but it is not a substitute for that treatment.
