How to self-exclude from sports betting in New Jersey
New Jersey is one of the fastest states. The online list takes one sitting, operators must apply it within 24 hours, and state rules require open online bets to be voided and balances refunded. The catch: the online list may not cover Atlantic City casinos or racetrack sportsbooks, and it doesn't end on its own.
The short answer
The internet list (online sportsbooks and online casinos) can be done online in one sitting, for 1 or 5 years. For Atlantic City casinos and racetrack sportsbooks — and for a lifetime term — the Division of Gaming Enforcement's own page says to enroll in person or by video call.

What to do today, before the state list kicks in
You can enroll online today, and operators must honor the internet list within 24 hours. Withdraw your balance first anyway. If casinos or racetrack sportsbooks are part of the problem, call 1-833-788-4DGE to book a video enrollment for the full list.

The gaps people miss
- The Internet/Sports Wagering list does NOT bar you from Atlantic City casinos or racetrack sportsbooks. Choose 'both' if you want both.
- Self-excluding in one sportsbook's app puts you on the state internet list only, not the property list.
- Your exclusion does NOT end on its own after 1 or 5 years. You stay on until you ask to be removed.
- Lifetime is available only by in-person or video enrollment, and it can never be removed.
- The DGE's own page and a December 2024 announcement disagree about whether the online portal can add Atlantic City casinos. Video or in-person enrollment covers everything for certain.

- Go to the DGE online portal (njportal.com/dge/selfexclusion). It is open 24/7.
- Pick Internet Gaming & Sports Wagering. The Division of Gaming Enforcement's own page says online enrollment covers internet gaming and online sports wagering only. A December 2024 announcement said the portal added Atlantic City casinos — on the portal itself; if casinos matter to you, use video enrollment. · unconfirmed
- Choose a term: 1 year or 5 years online. Lifetime is available for property exclusion through in-person or video enrollment.
- Instead of the portal, you can call 1-833-788-4DGE for a video-conference enrollment, or go in person to DGE in Atlantic City (Arcade Building, Tennessee Ave. & Boardwalk) or Trenton (140 E. Front St.), or to Meadowlands, Monmouth Park or Freehold Raceway.
- Or self-exclude from inside your online player account at any NJ sportsbook or online casino. This covers internet gaming and sports wagering only.
What you need
In-person and video enrollment: picture ID, and you will be photographed. what identity checks the online portal uses.
How long it takes to take effect
Online (internet) list: operators must apply changes within 24 hours of notice. Property list: within 5 business days.
What happens to your balance and open bets
Do this first, whatever your state says: withdraw your balance and let open bets settle before you enroll. Getting money back afterward means dealing with an operator that is now required to refuse you.
Per N.J.A.C. 13:69G-2.3, open online wagers are voided within 3 days of notice, and any online account balance of $1.00 or more is refunded within 90 days. Winnings, chips or funds gained while excluded are forfeited.
Can you get off the list early?
No. Removal is allowed only after the 1-year or 5-year minimum ends, and it is NOT automatic. You must file a removal request (Form 71). The regulation says to file in person at DGE Atlantic City or Trenton, but the portal suggests removal requests can also be made there . DGE removes the name within 5 business days. Lifetime exclusions cannot be removed.
Free blocking software in New Jersey
